| Do it Yourself 3 Ways to turn your home movies into DVD's
|
-
The almighty DVD player has taken over the living room, so chances
are you dusty videotape collections lies in a closet some where, perhaps
beside your old Hi-8 or VHS-C camcorder footage.
-
It's no surprise many are looking to back up old camcorder footage
onto DVD. Not only are cassettes bulky, and degrade over time and use,
but watching a wedding video, family vacation or baby's first steps is
more convenient on DVD. Most important, DVD's are more durable.
-
Over past few years, I have transferred over 40 hours
of home movies some 25 years (analog and digital footage) to DVD's. I have
seen first hand how my precious home movies have degraded over time. Imagine your son or
daughter showing their children DVD's of themselves growing up. I have made
copies for each of my daughters.
Getting Started:
Using a Personal Computer:
-
Makes it possible to edit the footage,
add special effects, narrations, screen titles, and on screen chapters for easy
navigation and copy it to disc for friends and family
and generally offers more flexibility.
Believe it or not, you don't need a IT engineering degree to pull this off.
-
Copying footage from a camcorder or VCR on your a computer can really
eat up a lot of hard drive. The amount will vary depending on the
quality of the recording, but an hour of high quality analog/digital footage
would require roughly 3.75GB of space. Once burn on a DVD, however, it
can be deleted.
